The Indiana Lemon Law is fairly neutral. The number of repair attempts required to qualify as a lemon under Indiana Lemon Law is high, however you don’t have to provide the manufacturer one last repair attempt. Also, the definition of vehicles are covered is a bit strict.
Indiana Lemon Law Summary
Vehicles Covered:
- Vehicles sold or leased and registered in Indiana that weigh less than 10,000 pounds
- Excludes motorcycles, motor homes and conversion vans
- Excludes ATVs or other recreational vehicles not designed for highway use
What constitutes a “lemon” under Indiana Lemon Law?
- Four unsuccessful repair attempts
- 30 business days out of service and the defect continues to exist.
- The defect must substantially impair the use, safety or value of the vehicle
The Indiana Lemon Law is valid for the following:
- 18 months or 18,000 miles, whichever comes first
What to do if you suspect you have a lemon in Indiana:
- Immediately draft a letter to the manufacturer of your automobile informing them of the defects you are experiencing. That notification letter must be sent via certified mail
- Ensure that you save ALL documentation related to your automobile repairs
